Battleborn

Battleborn by Claire Vaye Watkins

Really hard to review for me. It all felt like friends telling me stories, people I knew. I know exactly what Watkins means when she says “you don’t know how great this town is, you’re from Reno.” For example, I can imagine a nuance of a characters hailing from the 89015 and 89557 zip codes. Hell, I imagine I’m one of the (un)lucky few who have been to Beatty, Nevada. It all sounds so familiar. Combine this with good stories, good plots, and good characters and you’ve got a book I can’t get enough of. Nevada’s an odd sort of place with stories to be told. This certainly isn’t the Nevadan book, but it is a damn fine addition to the library that will rise from that desert.
